Women outnumber men at university—except in Africa

             

Women-only universities have boosted women studying science in many countries

Girls worldwide have caught up or overtaken boys in access to education, a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization says. However, in Africa fewer women than men still enrol at tertiary level—a reversal of the situation in most other parts of the world.

The UNESCO Global Education Monitoring Report on gender was published last month. It analysed data from 120 countries in primary and secondary education to offer a global picture.
