Initiative a “game-changer” for continent’s plan to produce own jabs
The Global Vaccine Alliance has approved a financing mechanism to support Africa’s efforts to build a sustainable vaccine manufacturing industry.
The African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator was approved by the Gavi board on 7 December at a meeting in Accra, Ghana. It will aim to pump US$1 billion into Africa’s vaccine manufacturing industry over the next 10 years, to help the continent meet its aim of locally producing 60 per cent of its routine immunisations by 2040.
