Malaria research funding falls for fourth consecutive year

WHO warns 2022 financial support for malaria R&D was lowest it’s been for 15 years

Funding for malaria R&D dropped for the fourth year in a row in 2022, hitting the lowest it’s been for 15 years, the World Health Organization has said.

The WHO’s World Malaria Report, published on 30 November, says US$603 million was spent on malaria R&D globally last year, a 10 per cent drop from 2021. Malaria R&D funds rose slowly before their peak in 2018, while the last four years of decline has been steep.
