Blueprint for African genomics ‘moonshot’ unveiled

“Bold proposal” for $80m-per-year programme now squares up to challenge of finding funding

African scientists are seeking support for a 10-year programme to grow the continent’s ability to perform genomics research.

The plan, unveiled at an international genomics conference in Cape Town, South Africa, last week, and dubbed a “moonshot” for African genomics, aims to establish a network of eight genomics centres of excellence across the continent.
