Kenya pushes ahead with nuclear power ambitions

Research reactor construction to start in 2026, with first power plant planned by 2034

Kenya’s government intends to start building a nuclear research reactor in 2026 as part of a push to introduce nuclear energy to the country.

The ambition comes in a five-year nuclear energy and power strategic plan, worth 36 billion Kenyan shillings (US$271 million), launched in Nairobi on 18 March.
