SA and Uganda top clinical trials partnership funding

South Africa and Uganda had the most fellows win awards from the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership in 2017, according to its annual report.

The report, published on 14 September, says that in 2017 the EDCTP awarded funding worth €256 million (US$300m). In line with its name, the bulk of the funding went to 34 clinical trials worth €215.2m, while €28.4m and €12.3m was spent on capacity development and fellowships respectively.

Tuberculosis research received the most funding of the diseases, with 26 grants worth €85.7m, followed by HIV and Aids, also with 26 grants but total funding worth €64.1m, and 14 malaria grants worth €32.1m.
