Business owners and scientists often at odds over commercialisation

Researchers should get in touch with technology transfer offices early to maximise benefits to projects, the head of the technology transfer office at North-West University in South Africa has advised.

“It is important as researchers to get [our] technology transfer offices involved in projects as early as possible as the fundamental function of the office is to identify, protect, manage, and commercialise intellectual property that arises from university research and development,” said Janine Chantson.
