South Africa's spend on research and development stagnated at 0.76 per cent of its gross domestic product for the third consecutive year, according to the results of the country’s 2012/13 R&D survey, announced on 3 December.
The Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators of the Human Sciences Research Council publishes the survey, which is the third to be released within a year.
National spending increased by a nominal 7.5 per cent in 2012/2013 to R23.87 billion (US$2bn) but the figure amounts to 2.5 per cent growth when adjusted for inflation.
