Infectious disease funders meet call for quicker responses

International medical research funding organisations has met in South Africa to discuss ways of pooling resources and accelerating research to improve responses to infectious disease epidemics such as Ebola.

The Global Research Collaboration for Infectious Disease Preparedness (GloPID-R) meeting in Cape Town on 4-5 May was hosted by the South African Department of Science and Technology and the county’s Medical Research Council.

The aim of the meeting was to identify and remove hurdles that plagued health researchers and funders during the Ebola outbreak, and to make certain that they are not repeated in future outbreaks.
