Stellenbosch University has overtaken the University of the Witswatersrand to come second in Africa in the latest QS World University Rankings published on 8 June.
Stellenbosch leapt up 34 positions to number 361, while Wits slipped five places to 364.
Stellenbosch’s ascent is one of a handful of light spots in a list which saw many African universities tumble down the rankings.
