South Africa's ruling African National Congress wants science and technology to be discussed at branch level in the party through the establishment of subcommittees.
The resolution was one of the outcomes of the ANC’s National Policy Conference in Johannesburg from 30 June to 5 July.
Many conference recommendations try to drum up support for science by trumpeting its potential for societal upliftment. The ANC wants to paint science as a “career of choice” in order to boost the number of researchers and scientists in the country.
