The South African Medical Research Council is offering five-year grants to create research units in cardiovascular and metabolic disease, traumatic injuries, and antimicrobial resistance.
The SAMRC’s extramural unit grants are designed to fill gaps in the country’s health research landscape that cannot be addressed through short-term funding channels.
The SAMRC will fund units for up to 15 years, depending on performance. It expects units to secure institutional co-funding and additional external grants, and play a leading role in training the next generation of researchers.
