South Africa has joined forces with Brazil and the European Union to coordinate and strengthen research on Atlantic ocean ecosystems.
The Belém agreement, signed on 13 July in Portugal, will see signatories collaborate in areas ranging from the ocean as a source of food to oceans and climate change.
Speaking at the signing, South Africa’s science minister Naledi Pandor said her country’s location at the tip of the African continent gave it a geographical advantage in ocean research.
