South Africa publishes renewable energy atlas

The South African government has invited public comment on a map of areas identified as hotbeds for future renewable energy projects.

The government released a report identifying “renewable energy development zones”, with accompanying data and maps, on 21 August.

Wind power hotspots are located predominantly in and around Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, the northern parts of the Northern Cape and Mpumalanga.
