SKA completion pushed back a year

The schedule for the completion of the Square Kilometre Array radio telescope has been pushed back another year, according to top officials.

This was announced during a meeting of the African SKA partners in Cape Town on 16 October. Rob Adam, managing director of the South Africa Radio Astronomy Observatory, said completion of construction is now set for 2026.

Phil Diamond, director-general of the SKA project, said in December 2017 that construction would begin in 2020 and be completed in 2025. Adam’s construction timeline gives the dates as 2021 and 2026 respectively.
