SA’s human genetics regulations need urgent update, academy says

South Africa’s legal and regulatory landscapes have not kept up with advances in genetics, leaving citizens vulnerable because their genomic data can be exploited, experts have said.

Their views come in a consensus study on the ethical, legal and social implications of genetics and genomics published on 4 December by the Academy of Science of South Africa.
