Phakeng confirmed as UCT vice-chancellor-elect

The University of Cape Town has confirmed that its council has elected current deputy vice-chancellor of research Mamokgethi Phakeng as its next vice-chancellor.

Phakeng will be the second black woman to lead the university. Mamphela Ramphele, a former medical doctor, anti-apartheid activist and politician, was vice-chancellor from 1997 to 2000.
