Damaging property ‘not a student right’ in South Africa

MPs from South Africa’s ruling party have called on university students to desist from violence and vandalism when protesting against outstanding debt and funding problems.

The comments were made during a sitting of Parliament’s portfolio committee on higher education, science and technology on 1 April. The committee met to discuss gripes by students and unions with the Cape Peninsula University of Technology’s management.
