Government R54m grant will lay foundation for “quantum workforce”, says project leader
South Africa’s University of the Witwatersrand has been awarded R54 million (US$3m) from the Department of Science and Innovation to advance quantum technology in the country.
The three-year grant will fund the South African Quantum Technologies Initiative. It will train a community of quantum scientists and work with the government to draft new laws to regulate the emerging technology area.
