South Africa is a world leader in disease modelling

          

Country comes second after India when output is adjusted for GDP

South Africa is one of the world’s top performers in mathematical modelling of infectious diseases, a bibliometric analysis has found.

South African researchers contributed nearly 6.5 per cent of the world’s output in disease modelling up to 2021, ranking it fifth in the world. Standardised by GDP, South Africa ranked second in the world behind India.
