In tough economic times, South African scientists are looking to cash in on tourism

In April next year, anyone with a keen interest in human origins and a spare $11,990 can embark on a tour of South Africa’s famous fossil dig sites.

The tour is organised by Genus, a palaeoscience hub hosted by the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. The 11-day tour will offer guests “exclusive access” to restricted dig sites across the country, guided by the experts who excavate them, all while enjoying the best food, accommodation and sights that South Africa has to offer.
