Former Cape Town vice-chancellor joins other researchers on advisory council for national orders
Mamokgethi Phakeng, who recently stepped down as vice-chancellor of the University of Cape Town (UCT) in South Africa, is one of 11 people chosen to serve on the country’s national honours committee.
National orders are the highest awards that South Africa bestows on citizens and foreign nationals. The advisory council processes nominations and advises the president. To serve on the council, candidates must have received a national honour.
