First PhD tracking study shows widening gap between expertise and job market

South Africa’s first study to track what becomes of PhD graduates has identified a growing mismatch between doctoral training in the country and postdoctoral employment opportunities.

The study, launched on 21 July, tracks the fate of 6,500 PhD holders who graduated from South African universities between 2000 and 2018.
