Vice-chancellor pay hikes ‘not linked to performance’

Executive salaries at South African universities risk becoming a “runaway train”, inquiry finds

An inquiry into vice-chancellor pay in South African universities has found that rapid increases in recent years have had little or no basis in performance.

The inquiry, carried out by the Council on Higher Education, investigated vice-chancellors’ annual salaries and increases since 2005.
