South Africa’s new science minister is a safe bet

Derek Hanekom’s appointment as South Africa’s minister for science represents continuity for the sector. Hanekom, who was sworn into office on 4 October, has been deputy science minister for eight years. He takes over from Naledi Pandor, who has moved to the department of home affairs.

Hanekom says he will maintain the pace set by his predecessor.
