New varieties seen as part of food security

Development of crop varieties capable of adapting to climate change are part of Africa’s food security drive, the heads of two agricultural organisations told a meeting in Ghana recently.

The message came from Eric Danquah, director of the Ghana-based West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) and Andy Jarvis, the theme leader for the Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security Challenge (CCAFS).
