Two Nigerian researchers have successfully applied for grants using the Research Africa platform. The two are Friday Idiku, a lecturer from the University of Calabar’s department of agricultural economics and extension, and Mary-Jane Sule, a computer scientist from the University of Jos.
Idiku won a €1,500 travel grant to attend the Hidden Hunger congress, which took place from 6 to 9 March in Germany. The congress sought to bring together researchers from fields that include agriculture and biology to discuss ways of reducing global hunger.
Sule and a team of researchers from the University of Jos won US$10,000 from the Internet Society to improve ICT infrastructure at a girls secondary school. The group, which received its second half of the grant in January, provided computers for students and wireless internet for staff members at the school.
