Three Nigerian universities have appointed vice-chancellors: the Federal University of Petroleum Resources and the Maritime University, both in Delta State, and the Crescent University in Ogun State.

The leader of the FUPR is Akaehomen Okonigbon Ibhadode, a professor of manufacturing engineering. He took over on 4 May after his predecessor, John Etu-Efeotor, resigned due to ill health.

Ongoebi Maureen Etebu becomes vice-chancellor of the Maritime University in Okerenkoko, a state university created by outgoing president Goodluck Jonathan. Etebu holds a professorship in mechanical engineering at the University of Port-Harcourt.
