Nigeria gears up for African science policy summit

The Abuja-based African Union Scientific Technical and Research Commission will host a development summit later this year, focusing on science and technology funding and policy in Africa.

The AUSTRC met Nigeria’s science minister, Ogbonnaya Onu, on 19 June to seek the ministry’s support for the event, which will take place from 9-10 October at the Yar’adua Centre in Abuja.

The summit will look at science, technology and innovation and their role in achieving the AU’s 50-year plan, ‘Agenda 2063’. It will also discuss progress on the 10-year pan-African science strategy, STISA-2024.
