Ghana VCs plead for reversal of controversial government decision

Vice-chancellors in Ghana have called on government to reverse a finance ministry decision that impels public institutions to cede a percentage of their internally generated revenue.

The finance ministry issued a directive in April forcing publicly funded institutions, such as universities, to pay back a chunk of the revenue they generate to government. For universities this figure was set at 34 per cent.

The latest statement of concern was made by Feehi Okoe Amartey, the vice-chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra.
