An institute studying Africa and what it means to be African with headquarters in both Nigeria and the Caribbean was launched earlier this month.
The Institute of African and Diaspora Studies, a partnership between the University of Lagos and the University of the West Indies, will chart the history of Africa as told by its people and challenge the narrative dominated by the continent’s colonisers.
The institute was launched at UNILAG on 9 August. During the event, Folasade Ogunsola, deputy vice-chancellor of development services, said it would become a one-stop-shop for thinkers to discuss Africa’s past and future.
