University pleads for extra government cash to relieve crippling debt

The University of Energy and Natural Resources in Ghana needs millions to help it escape debt that has crippled its activities.

Vice-chancellor Harrison Kwame Dapaah appealed for help to the country’s vice-president, Mahamudu Bawumia, at the university graduation ceremony on 12 August in Sunyani, the Ghana News Agency reported.

Dapaah said his university requires seed funding of GH¢50 million (US$11.2m) and an extra cash allocation of GH¢10m per year over 10 years to get itself out of trouble.
