Researchers from the University of Bamako in Mali and Tulane University in the United States have developed a successful malaria drug.
The results of their drug trial, performed in Mali, were published in the September issue of The Lancet Infectious Diseases.
The drug, AQ-13, was tested on malaria-infected adult men and the results compared with those of existing drugs. The scientists found the drug candidate was capable of clearing malaria infection within a week, like artemether and lumefantrine, the current standard regimen.
