Study on infectious disease surveillance begins in Nigeria

A study to identify cases of suspected severe infectious diseases like yellow fever, Lassa fever, dengue and Ebola began on 12 September at a Nigerian Army reference hospital, in Lagos.

The study is performed by the Joint West Africa Research Group of the US Department of Defense and the US Military HIV Research Program of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research.

According to a news release, three more study sites will be opened in Nigeria, with more to come in Ghana and Liberia.
