Côte d’Ivoire higher education to benefit from $100m loan

The higher education sector in Côte d’Ivoire will receive a funding injection of US$100 million after World Bank approval of a loan to the country on 22 March.

The five-year project will be implemented by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The project will be divided into three parts: US$55m to enhance graduate employability and quality; US$32m for short-course programmes; and US$13m to boost tertiary education management.

The government will draft a national policy for doctoral schools and will support universities to establish them. Funding will also be used to increase supervision capacity, review PhD curricula, rehabilitate labs and set up partnerships.
