Ex-Queensland VC remains Group of Eight chair

Paul Greenfield, who stood down as the University of Queensland’s vice-chancellor earlier in November, will continue to chair the Australian Group of Eight research intensive universities, reports The Conversation.

The Go8 board reportedly expressed confidence in Greenfield at a meeting on 17 November, despite the ex-VC’s involvement in an admissions irregularity at UQ.

Greenfield and his deputy, Michael Keniger, offered their resignations after an internal inquiry found that a student who is reportedly a relative of Greenfield had been admitted to a medical course despite not meeting entry requirements.

The university has confirmed that Greenfield and Keniger discussed the student in question in a telephone call before the admission occurred.
