Sydney confirms job cuts

The University of Sydney is set to cut staff by 7.5 per cent, reports The Australian.

In a video released on 21 November, vice-chancellor Michael Spence reportedly told staff: “We can no longer carry members of the university who are not pulling their weight: it is simply too expensive to do so.”

Spence was quoted as citing major research investments and lower-than-expected student fee income as reasons for the stringent measure.
