ANU recruits international relations expert

The newly created position of pro vice-chancellor at the Australian National University has been filled by Erik Lithander.

Lithander, director of international affairs at University College Dublin and former associate director for international relations at the University of Auckland, will join the ANU executive team in June.

“Dr Lithander brings significant experience in international education to the position. During his time at UCD he has considerably expanded its international student enrolments, built productive international relationships and repositioned UCD as Ireland’s most internationally-engaged university,” said vice-chancellor Ian Young.

Lithander’s appointment follows the naming of Marnie Hughes-Warrington as deputy vice-chancellor (academic) in November, and precedes the appointment of a deputy vice-chancellor (research) later this year.
