Centre aims to be ‘the MBA for science and technology’

The Australian Technology Network, an alliance of five universities from Australia’s five states, launched a PhD training centre on 3 February focused on preparing students for work in industry, reports The Australian.

The intention behind the centre is to link PhD candidates to industry-funded research projects and give them coursework on the generic skills required by industry.

“I hope it will be the MBA for science and technology in Australia,” said Lee White, from the University of Technology Sydney, one of the five.

The centre has been established with AU$1 million in federal funding and has initially enrolled 10 students from the five universities. The intention is to grow the centre to around 100 at any one time.
