Monash sets up graduate school in China’s Silicon Valley

Monash University is opening a joint campus with China’s Southeast University in Suzhou, a major industrial city in Jiangsu Province

The two universities will jointly operate a graduate school and research institute, offering masters coursework degrees and PhD programmes for around 500 students. Over five years, numbers are expected to grow to around 1400 postgraduate students.

Australia’s trade and investment minister Andrew Robb will attend the official campus opening later this month. In a statement announcing his trip, Robb said the joint campus was “a testament to the strong and growing links” established between China and Australia through tertiary education. He said China was Australia’s largest source of international student enrolments, contributing $4 billion a year to the nation’s economy.
