Chinese collaboration to create six research centres

Agriculture, mining technology and marine science are the three research priority areas for the next round of funding under the Australia-China Joint Research Centres programme.

Federal industry and science minister Ian Macfarlane announced the updated priorities on 2 July, following discussions with China’s science and technology minister Wan Gang in Beijing.

Macfarlane said the 2015 funding round was expected to support six new applied research centres at universities, institutes and federal research agencies. He said the three-year programme, which was set up in 2102, aimed to build stronger partnerships between Australian and Chinese researchers.
