Clean energy drives China’s global leadership bid

China will become the world’s “undisputed” renewable energy superpower if it continues investing in large-scale projects, according to a study published by the Australian National University in Canberra.

According to the ANU’s latest edition of its annual China Story Yearbook, ambitious carbon reduction targets announced by China in March 2016 have led to a renewable “revolution”.

ANU economist Jane Golley says there is “ample evidence” to suggest China is serious about tackling climate change and becoming a global leader in emissions reduction technology.
