Trade and research barriers ‘doomed to failure’, China warns

China’s president Xi Jinping has told an Asia-Pacific leaders’ summit that scientific research and technology innovations should not be “locked up” or used as “profit-making tools” to benefit a wealthy elite.

Scientific and technological innovations should meet people’s needs, Xi told the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, held in Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea.

“Every country is entitled to benefit from such innovations made through both their own efforts and international cooperation.”
