Drought and debt push older farmers to quit the land

Older farmers and those struggling with high debt levels are more likely to consider selling their farms during drought, despite low property prices, according to a University of Adelaide study.

It found that horticulture and dairy farmers were most likely to quit during droughts, particularly if water prices for irrigated farming had increased or water license allocations had been reduced.
