US university to sell off farm property investments

Harvard University is selling a $50 million irrigated cotton farm in New South Wales and also negotiating a $92m deal to sell its dairy farms in New Zealand.

The US university bought three farms at Hay and Hillston in the Riverina region of south-western NSW around four years ago, through its endowment fund manager, Harvard Management.

Newmarket Station, a 17,400 hectare property on the Hay plain, was embroiled in controversy in 2015 after Aboriginal cultural sites were destroyed during excavations to build irrigation channels.
