Medical graduates who train in rural areas are more likely to go on to work in regional medical practices, according to research by the University of Queensland.
It found that each year of rural medical training doubled the likelihood of rural practice for students from both rural and city backgrounds.
The study is based on a survey of more than 700 medical graduates from UQ over a nine-year period, and data from the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. The results are published online in PLOS ONE.
