La Trobe University is to close its freshwater research centre at Mildura in regional Victoria on 21 December.
The Melbourne-based university told regional media in September that it was consulting staff about possible closure of the Centre for Freshwater Ecosystems after losing a research funding bid.
According to a report by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s newsroom in Mildura, the university said it did not “have adequate funding to cover the running costs of the lab”.
