Tasmania aims to improve dementia literacy worldwide

The University of Tasmania has received a $3.7-million philanthropic grant to maximise the reach of its free online courses aimed at improving public awareness of the needs of people living with dementia.

The grant was provided by the Wicking Trust, which was set up by a bequest from Australian philanthropists John and Janet Wicking in 2002 to support dementia research.

The university previously received two Wicking Trust grants to create the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre in Hobart in 2008. The centre is part of the UTAS college of health and medicine.
