University to investigate national trends in gig economy

A website that will track data and publish surveys on Australia’s gig economy workers has been launched by the University of Technology Sydney.

Gig Watch will aim to provide information on work trends and working conditions that can be used by researchers, policymakers, employers and members of the public. Gig economy workers will be invited to share their experiences.

Sarah Kaine, a lecturer with the university’s centre for business and social innovation, said there was little information on the size of Australia’s gig economy or the types of work available.
