Changing the belief that cyclists are not legitimate road users could reduce hostility from motorists and make city cycling safer, according to research by Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne.
A survey of almost 240 drivers assessed anger towards cyclists and the belief that they do not have the same status as motorists in their right to use city roads.
The results are published in the journal Transportation Research Part F: Traffic psychology and behaviour.
